A message from the Department of Women and Children, of the Interim Executive Council of Karenni State, to honor International Women’s Day
- On the occasion of International Women’s Day, on 8 March 2025, the Karenni State Interim Executive Council, Department of Women and Children, hereby formally recognize and honors all women’s organizations from Karenni State, as well as every individual, who are tirelessly and actively contributing across all sectors to the advancement of women’s rights, gender equality, and the ending of the military dictatorship. Across generations, and especially in the current Spring Revolution, the women of Karenni State have shown their courage, resilience, and patience, and have taken leading roles in the struggle for freedom, justice, and the building of a Federal Democratic Union. Despite many challenges and difficulties, they continue to stand bravely for justice and gender equality, and this commitment is deeply respected and recognized.
- In the process of building a Federal Democratic Union, as the core objective of Myanmar’s Spring Revolution, women are actively participating and contributing across various sectors, including the military, political, educational, health, economic, and social fields. Women who are struggling in conflict-affected areas are not only ensuring the survival of their families but also engaging in advocacy and mobilization on the international stage, laying a strong foundation for the building of the Federal Union in Myanmar. As armed conflict has intensified within Karenni State, women have become the primary victims of the resulting socio-economic hardships and security challenges. At the same time, it should not be forgotten that women are also taking on the leading roles in managing community administration where it has collapsed, as well as in the administration and coordination of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
- On this International Women’s Day commemoration, we pay special respect and honor to the women who have contributed in many different ways to social development and to the creation of an equal and inclusive society. We also call for recognizing their efforts and recording their leadership as part of an honorable and lasting historical legacy. At the same time, we call on everyone to have a responsibility to increase women’s participation across all sectors and to continue promoting women’s rights and gender equality. We also urge the relevant administrative councils and organizations to prioritize the implementation of the temporary special measures.
- From today, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, we sincerely wish that, in the future, Karenni women will be able to live in a society that is free from discrimination and oppression. Department of Women and Children of the Karenni State Interim Executive Council commits that in the future, women’s needs, voices, rights, and capacities will never be left out, and we will work together in close cooperation with relevant organizations and individuals to advance women’s needs and development. Here, we commit and promise to continue the implementation of policies and measures that reduce discrimination and inequality, protect all women, and promote an inclusive and equal society where everyone can participate.
