The Interim Executive Council of Karenni State(IEC) extends its warm congratulations on the occasion of the 58th Anniversary of Kayaw National Day, which falls on 15 April 2026. We sincerely wish that all Kayaw people remain safe from harm and enjoy good health, peace, and prosperity.
Kayaw National Day is a historic day that highlights the national identity of the Kayaw people, first commemorated on 15 April 1968. Throughout history, the Kayaw people have bravely resisted all forms of dictatorship, including military rule. The Kayaw people also have a proud history of participating in the Allied forces during World War I, fighting for Karenni State.
The efforts of the Kayaw people for equality, self-determination, and the right to shape their own destiny have always been a strong force in the Karenni revolution and in the establishment of a Federal Democratic Union. Since the anti-military dictatorship movement that began on 1 February 2021, the Kayaw people have continued to stand together with ethnic brothers and sisters across the country in this struggle.
As the role of the Kayaw people is extremely important in the effort to end military dictatorship and all forms of authoritarian rule, we respectfully encourage continued collective leadership and mutual recognition. Together, we must strive to build a new Federal Democratic Union based on equality.
