Emergency Flood Warning
The illegal coup military’s LIB (422), based in Mobye Town, recklessly opened the gates of the Mobye Dam starting from the early morning of 25 July 2024. As a result, the water level of the Balu Chaung River up to 8 feet within 24 hours.
At present, flooding is occurring in Mobye Lake, Phalain Lake, Bayarni Village, Phaung Taw Village, and Buyarphyu Village. This act is believed to have been done intentionally to cause serious hardship to local farmers and civilians.
As a result, most of the paddy fields along both sides of the Balu Chuang River(estimated at around 1,000 acres) may be flooded starting today, which may face the risk of serious damage or loss, and residential areas and villages in Loikaw Town and nearby areas may also experience flooding.
Therefore, as an emergency in which water levels may continue to rise over the next three days, starting from today, residents living in lower areas along both sides of the Balu Chaung River and Loi Kaw town areas are strongly urged to remain alert and, if necessary, to make preparations to evacuate to safer locations.
