On February 1, 2021, the Myanmar military unlawfully seized all state powers. In response to this coup, elected parliamentary representatives from Kayah State who won seats in the 2020 general election stood together with the mass protest movements and voiced their opposition.
Due to the post-coup instability and the complex political crisis, there was a lack of effective political leadership in the Karenni State. Under these circumstances, when the Karenni State Consultative Council(KSCC) was formed, we, as the elected Members of Parliament, stood as an important pillar in the political leadership of Karenni State and participated as a collective body of elected representatives, together with other revolutionary forces within the state. Furthermore, the Karenni State Interim Arrangement provides the mandate to those elected Members of Parliament who refuse to collaborate with the military coup to form a legislative committee.
Under the Karenni State Interim Arrangement, the powers and authorities given to the Legislative Committee are aligned with those of a parliamentary mandate. Moreover, as it constitutes one of the three principal pillars of the political system, a proposal was submitted to the Karenni State Consultative Council to rename the Karenni State Interim Legislative Committee as the Karenni State Interim Parliament. Following approval of this proposal, the body has officially assumed its role as the Karenni State Interim Parliament as of 24 August 2023, and has been continuously engaged in parliamentary functions and legislative processes.
Therefore, this announcement is made to enable the public and political forces, both domestically and internationally, to gain a better understanding of the structure, objectives, and operational procedures of the Karenni State Interim Parliament, and to facilitate broader cooperation.
The Karenni State Interim Parliament is initially formed with the following Members of Parliament who won seats in the 2020 General Election.

During the interim period, the Karenni State Interim Parliament(KSIP) aims to function as a legislative branch by enacting laws, representing the people, and ensuring a system of checks and balances between the executive and legislative branches.
Throughout this interim period, the Karenni State Interim Parliament(KSIP) has outlined five key objectives for implementation.
1. Enacting necessary laws, rules, and regulations that protect the people in Karenni State.
2. Ensuring an effective system of checks and balances between the judicial and executive branches.
3. Enhancing unity and solidarity among political actors in Karenni State.
4. Engaging with national and international political stakeholders.
5. Coordinating and collaborating with relevant organizations to address the physical and mental needs of the people.
The Karenni State Interim Parliament (KSIP) is committed to aligning with the aspirations of the people to eliminate all forms of authoritarianism, ensure national equality, and establish a genuine federal democratic union.
