Statement on the Death of Innocent Civilians, Including Children and Women, in the Terrorist Military Junta’s Aerial Attack

1. Throughout 2024, the terrorist military junta continued to carry out aerial strikes against civilians. As a result, 24 people were killed, and more than 40 were injured in Karenni State during 2024. Furthermore, on 5 September 2024, the terrorist military junta again carried out another aerial raid, this time targeting the Bangkok IDP camp, located near   La- Ei village on the western part of Phekhon Township, with 500-pound bombs, killing nine people and wounding around 20 others. This act clearly demonstrates how the terrorist military junta has arbitrarily and shamelessly violated innocent civilians’ right to life and existence during armed conflicts.

2. The Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) expresses heartfelt condolences to the innocent victims murdered in the aerial strike and their surviving family members. Therefore, as the terrorist military continues to commit acts of violence against innocent civilians through various means, these violations must not be treated as routine or be easily ignored. The Karenni State Interim Executive Council strongly calls upon United Nations Member States, European Union (EU) member states, and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states to take practical and effective actions, as outlined below.

a. Ban ammunition imports from different states to the terrorist military junta.

b. Stop aviation fuel imports to prevent aerial attacks.

c. Ensure the International Criminal Court (ICC) takes effective action against the military for genocide crimes.

d. Increase humanitarian aid for all Myanmar people, including Karenni people, who are suffering.

3. We, the Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) pledges to work with all Myanmar people, including the Karenni, to ensure that the terrorist military junta is prosecuted at international military tribunals and held accountable for their actions without impunity.
