Interim Executive Council of Karenni State

Karenni National Resistance Day

Congratulatory Message from the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) on the Occasion of the 77th Anniversary of Karenni National Resistance Day

  1. Today marks the 77th anniversary of when the Karenni people began their struggle for national independence, equality, and the right to self-determination. Over these 77 years, countless martyr heroes have fought and made sacrifices of their lives and limbs, and this day is one on which we remember and honor those sacrifices, as a day of significance for all the people of Karenni State.
  2. For many generations, authoritarian rulers have used extreme nationalism, religious extremism, and military power as tools. Through many methods, they tried to systematically erase the Karenni people’s identity, language, culture, and history, and tried to bring the people under their military bureaucracy. Under these circumstances, the Karenni National Resistance, founded on the strong determination of the Karenni people, has continued its struggle without setback since the renewed military coup in 2021 up to the present. And the struggle will continue until the people of Karenni State achieve the political equality that they desire.
  3. Across the entire country, including Karenni State, the terrorist military has been committing day-to-day human rights violations and war crimes without shame. In 2025, there were 32 airstrike attacks in Karenni State, resulting in 98 people injured and a total of 33 deaths. For these brutal crimes, the terrorist military must be held accountable.
  4. Therefore, the Karenni people must move forward in a more united and organized manner, with systematic management and cooperation in organizational, military, and administrative affairs, and continue the struggle in a balanced way through inclusive collaboration that involves everyone. Only in this way can we honor our responsibility to the martyr heroes who sacrificed their lives across generations. If there is stronger participation than what it is now, with patience and knowing that each responsibility from all organizations must continue, we are confident that these efforts will produce fruitful results in building a federal union and achieving systemic change. With these wishes, we hereby send our message to honor on the occasion of the 77th Karenni National Resistance Day.
